Working on a Website is a Partnership
This is a subject I decided I want to address. Your website is a partnership between the developer/designer and the client.
Many times it is the client that lets the project go out of control. Let me give you a real-life example without mentioning the client.
In November of 2023, I started a project for a non-profit. I heard a little bit from the client in December. Since then I have heard nothing – radio silence. When writing this, we are on May 6th, 2024.
The problem is that I feel like I have been Ghosted and am about to declare the project abandoned.
There has to be a responsibility on the client’s side to turn things over in a timely/professional manner. This included proper communication.
In a case like this; unfortunately for the client; there will be a restart fee to complete the project. That is just the reality of it all.
How could this have been handled better:
- Better communication from the client.
- Regular updates – if something is going on it would have been better to be upfront.
- The client making meeting deadlines a priority.
Remember this is a partnership. The web designer/developer can only do so much without the client’s involvement.
